Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. They will assist you in transferring to your selected accommodation in Kigali. Depending on your arrival time, you might take this opportunity to explore the city. The Genocide Memorial and local markets are popular options. You will spend your first night in Kigali.
Day 2: Akagera National Park
Your second day begins with a departure for Akagera National Park, which is about a 3-hour drive from Kigali. After reaching the park, you’ll check in at your lodge nestled within its boundaries. An exciting afternoon game drive awaits, giving you the chance to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and various other wildlife species. Your night will be spent in the tranquil surroundings of Akagera.
Day 3: Akagera National Park
This day is dedicated to exploring Akagera’s diverse landscapes and wildlife further. Engage in full-day game drives across different sections of the park, keeping an eye out for an array of animals and bird species. A boat safari on Lake Ihema is also on the agenda, offering the opportunity to observe hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. You will retire for the night once again within the confines of Akagera.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park On the fourth day, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, a journey of approximately 5 hours. After reaching the park, you’ll check in at a lodge situated near its entrance. The afternoon is yours to unwind and prepare for the highly anticipated gorilla trekking experience the following day. You’ll spend the night in anticipation of the adventure ahead.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking
The early hours of this day are dedicated to a remarkable gorilla trekking adventure. Trek through the lush forests in search of a gorilla family in their natural habitat. This encounter is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge to rest and reflect on this incredible encounter. If time permits, you can also visit the Iby’wacu Cultural Village to learn about local traditions. Your final night near Volcanoes National Park will be a culmination of unforgettable experiences.
Day 6: Departure
Your last day involves checking out from your accommodation and returning to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time. This could be utilized for additional exploration in Kigali or some last-minute shopping. With memories of the diverse wildlife and rich culture of Rwanda, you’ll head to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
