Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp Depart from Nairobi and embark on a scenic drive to the Sirimon Gate, the starting point of the Sirimon Route. Begin your trek through the lush montane forest, where you might encounter various wildlife and unique vegetation. Gradually ascend through the forested trail, and after a few hours of hiking, you’ll reach the Old Moses Camp. This camp is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,300 meters (10,825 feet) and provides a perfect location for acclimatization. Enjoy a relaxing evening at the camp and rest well for the next day’s climb.
Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Shipton Camp.
After breakfast, resume your journey towards Shipton Camp. Leave the forested area behind and enter the beautiful moorlands, characterized by rolling hills and open landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass by Liki North Hut and Mackinder’s Valley, providing stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. As you approach Shipton Camp, which sits at an elevation of around 4,200 meters (13,780 feet), the scenery becomes more dramatic and awe-inspiring. Rest at Shipton Camp, soak in the breathtaking vistas, and prepare for the summit attempt.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Shipton Camp.
Today is reserved for acclimatization at Shipton Camp, a crucial step to adapt to the higher altitudes before attempting the summit. Use this day to relax, hydrate, and take short hikes to nearby viewpoints like Kami Hut or hike a section of the trail to further boost your acclimatization. This rest day will increase your chances of a successful summit attempt and reduce the risk of altitude-related issues.
Day 4: Shipton Camp to Point Lenana and Back to Shipton Camp,
Rise early for the summit attempt towards Point Lenana, the third-highest peak of Mount Kenya. The climb involves challenging sections, including some rocky terrain, but the reward is worth it. As you ascend, witness a breathtaking sunrise from the summit, casting stunning hues across the surrounding peaks and glaciers. Take in the exhilarating views and celebrate your accomplishment before descending back to Shipton Camp for rest and overnight stay.
Day 5: Shipton Camp to Sirimon Gate and Return to Nairobi.
After breakfast, bid farewell to Shipton Camp and begin your descent. Pass through the picturesque moorlands and gradually enter the montane forest once again. Enjoy the tranquility of the forested trail and keep an eye out for any wildlife along the way. Eventually, you’ll arrive at the Sirimon Gate, where your Mount Kenya trek concludes. From here, you’ll drive back to Nairobi, cherishing the memories of this extraordinary climbing adventure.
